Mugenkyo

Despite a history spanning over 300 years, the former village of Mugenkyo was abandoned in 1964 after a landslide occurred on the mountain behind it.
However, the area is still home to a variety of historical sites such as the Oyamazumi Shrine, Koyasu Kannon Temple, Buddhist statues, traditional homes, and various industrial sites (including an abandoned sulfur mine) that have miraculously survived one disaster after another.
Accordingly, the area has come to be known widely as a ”power spot” in recent years, a spiritual place of protection in which the spirits enshrined bring good luck to all who visit.
